ARCHED BACK BATHER MANLY
The Arched Back Bather is one of a series of 'Landscape' sculptures. It suggests a woman with her knees bent and her back arched, basking in the sun. The arch was inspired by natural stone arches carved by the sea along the coast, the knees by rounded boulders of striated sandstone, and the honeycomb texture was copied directly from the weathered rock just below the sculpture itself. This sculpture stood for years on a rock near Manly Beach. It can now be seen in the Manly Pacific (Novatel) Hotel, in Manly near its original site.
